MASO is proud to announce Julie Moffitt as the MASO Volunteer of the Year Award, which recognizes outstanding volunteers who have made a difference in Montana Symphonies.  Julie’s contributions to the Glacier Symphony exemplify these qualities and align with MASO’s mission to encourage, promote, and assist in the development of exceptional musical programs throughout the state of Montana.

Julie and her husband Jim Strainer moved to the Flathead Valley twenty years ago, where they were introduced to the Glacier Symphony by a neighbor.  Both immediately became supporters and volunteers for the organization.  When Jim joined the Symphony Board and was elected to serve as President, Julie volunteered her time to help the Symphony become better known in the Flathead Valley.  She has since volunteered thousands of hours, diligently promoting Symphony programs, serving on working committees and the Board, and bringing new people into the organization.

As Board President (July 1, 2017- June 30, 2019) Julie applied solid leadership and organizational skills to guide the Glacier Symphony through significant staff transitions and major fundraising initiatives, effectively enlisting fellow Board members to assist with these critical endeavors.  She often donated her own money to advance such Symphony programs such as soirees featuring guest artists, donor recognition events, fundraisers, and educational outreach.  Julie also regularly attended MASO meetings on behalf of the Glacier Symphony.

Last year Julie joined the Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) Foundation’s “ONE Campaign” committee to raise $18+ million for construction of a new College Center with a performance hall, acoustically and technically designed for symphonic music.  Julie engaged major and prospective donors of the Glacier Symphony through special events, phone calls, and personal visits.  The “ONE Campaign” raised $18 million in only 18 months, paving the way for construction to begin in Spring 2020 and the facility to become the permanent performance home of the Glacier Symphony in Fall 2021.

Julie Moffitt is an exceptional volunteer for the Glacier Symphony – a tireless worker, a skilled and gracious leader, a faithful and generous donor, an enthusiastic ambassador for the organization, and most of all someone who cherishes classical music and wholeheartedly works to keep it flourishing for present and future generations.
