SUMMARY:Sibelius No. 2
DESCRIPTION:Conner Gray Covington\, Music Director Candidate\nWilliam Hagan\, Violin \n“A confession of the soul\,” Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2 balances its two themes of death and resurrection between its triumphant beginning and confident conclusion\, a fitting piece for our last—but certainly not least—Music Director Finalist\, Conner Gray Covington. Not to be missed\, William Hagen returns to our stage to perform the striking Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5\, an audacious piece that isn’t afraid to break rules or conventions when demanded to. The concert starts with Argo\, a piece written by current composer Emily Cooley\, premiered by the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in 2016. Join us as we bring our search to an end! \nEmily Cooley\nArgo\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart\nViolin Concerto No. 5 in A Major\, “Turkish”\nJean Sibelius\nSymphony No. 2 in D Major

SUMMARY:Easter Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Mozart composed his Symphony No. 29 in 1774 when he was just 18 years old. Despite his age\, the piece already shows the imagination\, emotional depth\, and effortless charm that would later make him one of history’s most celebrated composers. \nHandel’s Messiah may be a Christmas-season tradition today\, but much of the work actually tells the Easter story. Its second and third parts move through Christ’s Passion and Resurrection to the promise of eternal life\, including the iconic “Hallelujah” Chorus. \nOla Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass takes listeners on a musical journey from darkness to light\, beginning with the mysterious vastness of “The Spheres” and ending in quiet peace. Premiered in 2008\, it blends centuries-old influences like Gregorian chant with lush\, cinematic harmonies—and has become one of the most frequently performed major choral works of the 21st century.

SUMMARY:American Trails with Edgar Meyer
DESCRIPTION:This vibrant program celebrates the many voices of America\, headlined by virtuoso bassist and composer Edgar Meyer. The wide-open spirit of the frontier comes alive in Aaron Copland’s Rodeo\, while the jazz-infused sparkle of George Gershwin’s An American in Paris brings the energy of a bustling city to the concert hall. At the heart of the program\, Meyer takes center stage in two dazzling double bass concertos that seamlessly blend classical tradition with Appalachian and bluegrass influences. As The New Yorker proclaims\, he is “the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively unchronicled history of his instrument.” Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience his artistry live on the Willson stage.

SUMMARY:The Cycle of Beginnings
DESCRIPTION:Robert Moody\, Guest Conductor\nBillings Symphony Chorale\nZuri\, Spinto Soprano\nJonathan Pierce Rhodes\, Tenor \nThe monumental Search Season comes to an end in a brilliant evening of looking back and moving forward as we embrace this new chapter in the Billings Symphony’s story. In this concert\, led by Guest Conductor Robert Moody\, we travel again to the Bohemian countryside with Bedrich Smetana’s The Moldau as the symphony evokes the course of a flowing river through sound. The night continues as we present the Montana premiere of Christopher Tin’s The Drop That Contained the Sea\, a work structured around the water cycle as each movement follows the journey and changes that something even as simple as water must take. \nThis concert also marks the season’s biggest announcement\, celebrating the results of this outstanding Music Director search! \nBedrich Smetana\nThe Moldau\nEdward Elgar\nNimrod from Enigma Variations\nIn memory of Billings Symphony friends we have recently lost \nMusic Director Announcement \nIntermission \nChristopher Tin\nThe Drop that Contained the Sea
