SUMMARY:Poiesis Quartet: BISQC 2025 Winners
DESCRIPTION:Poiesie Quartet\nSarah Ying Ma\, violin\nCoco Mi\, violin\nJasperde Boor\, viola\nDrew Dansby\, cello \nWidely recognized as one of the most prestigious global platforms for emerging quartets\, Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC) offers one of the largest prizes in chamber music\, with the potential to shape a quartet’s artistic journey in profound and transformative ways. We are excited to have the 2025 winners\, the Poiesis Quartet\, perform for us this season. Derived from ancient Greek\, the word “Poiesis” means “to make;” specifically\, to create something that has never existed before. With a focus on expanding the string quartet repertoire with vibrant new works by emerging composers\, the Poiesis Quartet infuses each performance with unique moments of synchronicity and verve.

SUMMARY:Beethoven by Candlelight
DESCRIPTION:Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun begins with one of the most famous flute solos ever written. Its hazy\, dreamlike sound was so groundbreaking that it helped usher classical music into the modern era. \nBeethoven’s Violin Concerto was largely overlooked during his lifetime\, only becoming a sensation decades later when a 12 year old violinist\, Joseph Joachim\, performed it in London under the baton of Felix Mendelssohn. \nKhachaturian’s sweeping Adagio of Spartacus & Phrygia depicts the love between the gladiator Spartacus and his wife\, and later became famous to millions as the theme music for the BBC series The Onedin Line.
